[Cathey W. Steinberg collection], 1981-1982; 1996; n.d.

The Cathey W. Steinberg Collection, 1981-1982; 1996, includes archival photocopies of all pages of two scrapbooks, 1981-1982 and 1982, plus a group of additional scrapbook materials (1981-1982; 1996) retained by Steinberg, and the contact sheet and negatives of 26 select color photographs from those scrapbooks. Representative Steinberg's efforts to ratify the ERA and the history of the ERA in Georgia are described through correspondence, newspaper clippings, and photographs contained in these scrapbooks. Letters include pro-and anti-ERA sentiments expressed by individuals and organizations, while newspaper articles follow the politics surrounding ERA ratification efforts in Georgia. Photographs are of the Women's Equality Day Rally in front of the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, 26 August 1981, and an ERA Rally, also in front of the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, 18 January 1982. Personalities depicted include former Governor George Busbee and Lieutenant Governor Zell Miller, Speaker Tom Murphy, television anchor Monica Kaufman, Representatives Eleanor Richardson, Mary Jane Galer, and Grace Hamilton, and long-time women's rights advocates Mamie K. Taylor, Lucia Fairlee, and Eleanore Raoul Greene.
